For Woody Allen filming and directing the movie “Match Point” was a very different style from Woody Allen’s more comedic and quirky parallels of character’s lifestyles usually questioning the “What Ifs” in a midlife crisis.
This movie is centered around a man whose name is Chris Wilton. Chris wasn’t part of those elitist groups or came from a family of wealth and opportunities. Those that are born with the rare and pivotal opportunities to fulfill their dreams and lives. Of course there are those with money and status that can be very pretentious and arrogant.
This film is 10 years old. Actor Johnathan Ryes Meyers plays the central character who is Chris Wilton. Chris was just an ordinary person who by chance becomes attracted to a woman named Chloe who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. It appears that Chris isn’t really madly in love with Chloe but at the same time he finds her goodness and normalcy so refreshing and ingratiatingly comfortable. Knowing that Chloe’s family and wealth could offer Chris an opportunity to promote his livelihood thereby fulfilling his dreams of becoming something bigger in life with the constant support and love of Chloe who believes in him completely.
From there Chris and Chloe’s marriage seems like a match made in heaven. But life always presents challenges and temptations that question and confuse our normal daily routines. That’s when the story becomes a lot more interesting and dangerous. It’s a love affair that is almost impossible to avoid. The love affair becomes part of the inner circle of this wealthy family and how easily these kinds of love affairs can self destruct and end in tragedy.
You can rent the movie on Netflix and I hope you enjoy it.
