Salah Abdeslamin who is now captured and believed to be involved in the Paris terrorist attacks during his hideout in Brussels he continued to be involved with senior Syrian operatives planning more terrorists attacks throughout Europe. Upon his arrest this more than likely is what catapulted one of their long planned terrorist attacks at the Brussels airport and metro system. It was said from a terrorist analyst that ISIS leaders were also depriving Belgian officials of their day of victory upon arresting Salah Abdeslamin. Belgian officials have reported that while Salah Abdeslamin has been in custody he was only interviewed for one hour out of the four days in custody and did not talk nor tell of the imminent egregious terror attack that was planned and executed in Brussels Belgium.
It has been reported that 6,000 extremists have traveled to Syria and 1,500 possible terrorists have come out from Syria distributing themselves through out European countries. Turkey officials said they had arrested and identified Ibrahim El Bakraoui one of the suicide bombing brothers at the Brussels airport who was detained in July, 2015 in Turkey. Turkish authorities flagged Ibrahim El Bakraoui warning Brussels Belgium authorities of his possible involvement as a potential ISIS terrorist. Today they showed on CNN his record from Turkey indicating in a field Terrorist. At this point Belgiam officials noted their communication from Turkey but did not follow up on surveillance of Ibrahim El Bakraoui. Belgian authorities noted that he did have a criminal record.
The main issue is that Belgium law enforcement officials are inundated with too many Syrian ISIS terrorists that are traveling back and forth. There are six different law enforcement police districts throughout Belgium and clearly there is a lot of missed information sharing that is not being addressed and they simply cannot handle the enormous number of terrorists cells hiding in Belgium. There are 19 mayors in Belgium. It is reported that every third person that comes into the country is checked for terrorist activity. So not everyone is vetted. CNN anchor Erin Burnett interviewed a young gentleman who is in college and reported to her that the parents of a friend who did go to Syria to be trained by ISIS called the Brussels police to turn their own son in and they replied “So, what do you want us to do about it.” The identifying and capturing terrorists has clearly not been a priority in addition to being inundated with the amount of people traveling back and forth.
Terrorists are traveling not only through airports but also through ferry and subway systems to go back and forth to their destinations. At present there is no coordination of information sharing between countries law enforcement divisions to be tracking, flagging, and warning of terrorists movements and suspicious behavior. It would help tremendously for law enforcement officials from all countries to unite and participate in building a unified database to keep track of possible terrorists movements and biometrics information. This would be a coalition effort shared by the United States, France, England, Belgiun, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Germany, etc… This would involve all international airlines, ferry and subway database ticket systems to be modified to work in conjunction with a real-time database flagging system. It is a given that this database would have the highest firewall security protection system in place continuously rotating IP addresses to prevent from hacking and implementing a fail-over system in case of a power interruption or failure at the main server’s location. This is something that could be implemented and help law enforcement officials to flag and track down these terrorists more quickly. There are countries with policies that would have to change to partake and share this wealth of information. I would assume that given the high risk of terror attacks policy officials would make this a priority and effectively change their policies to participate in this endeavor of tracking terrorists. We must upgrade our international surveillance systems and also increase our surveillance at transportation soft target areas with greater police support as well.
Brussels is now conducting multiple terrorist raids. This is standard procedure for law enforcement officials to prevent another attack. So far it’s been reported that 40 pounds of explosives with chemicals and nails and an ISIS flag has been recovered during these raids. As a country Belgium has the highest number of terrorists per capita compared to other countries. This is an overwhelming task with their limited resources. These terrorists are also well assimilated among these communities of diverse ethnicity. So far they have made multiple arrests in Brussels suburbs and have foiled numerous imminent potential terror attacks also in Paris. CNN has just broadcast that the number two ISIS leader Haji Imam has also been killed by U.S. special armed forces during a raid. He was said to be involved in the financial distribution of money involved in terrorists attacks. I suspect their terrorist network is large in the city of Brussels and throughout Belgium. As long as they didn’t commit a terrorist act in Brussels they were relatively hidden and safe from being discovered and arrested. This was their central location of operation throughout Europe. Now this is not the case because Belgian officials are now hot on their trail and will imminently make more arrests.
One of the most important procedures to put in place in any country is to have an integration of people involved directly with Muslim communities. An assimilation of human intelligence where people from these communities start to feel comfortable and share information for everyone’s well being. It has been reported that many people from Muslim communities don’t want to get involved or share information based on their fear of retaliation. Here is another hot spot that can improve immensely to have integration with law enforcement officials and also other operatives of Muslim descent that can help in detecting and reporting terrorists cells activities.
Since the Brussels terrorist tragedy presidential candidate Ted Cruz has called for surveillance of all Muslim communities here in the United States. This is a very bad idea. It is racial profiling and many of these families have lived here in America for generations and are good abiding citizens. Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said “Ted Cruz should stick to running his shrinking presidential campaign and stop running his mouth. He doesn’t know what the hell he is talking about to be frank with you.”
Well I couldn’t agree more. This is the man (Ted Cruz) that the GOP is now suddenly rallying to support against Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.
It would be the perfect opportunity to present this terrorist tracking database system at the next NATO meeting. There are a number of highly qualified database companies with talented programmers to get the database up and running fairly quickly. The initial steps would be to identify and develop a conglomerate database scheme that works efficiently and effectively among all the countries sharing a unified database system.
No systems put in place is going to stop all terrorist attacks from occurring but it’s these kinds of security procedures put in place that will help to reduce the number of occurrences and more importantly arrest these individuals and keep them separated from each other when in prison.
