The Seriousness of the Zika Virus: ©Natalie Keshing
My heart breaks for the young women in Rio, Brazil, Miami, Florida, and all the other parts of the world where there is plush green jungle and the rainfall of water. Fate would have it that one of the smallest insects a mosquito is now carrying one of the worst viruses. If one mosquito that is full of Zika Virus penetrates your skin, just one spot on your exposed body it can change your life especially during one of the most cherished times when a woman is pregnant.
Women who are pregnant in countries like Brazil are having to make a terrible choice knowing they have been exposed to the Zika Virus and the potential harmful effects to their unborn child they carry. Women also have to worry and should take precautionary measures not to have unprotected sexual intercourse especially if pregnant or not because this virus can be transferred through sexual intercourse.
Today, on my magazine site NatsWritings.com the crawl showed “41 US Military members have contracted the Zika Virus.” That gave me pause and I clicked on the title on the crawl taking me directly to the article. Through By Barbara Starr at CNN:
“Through Washington on CNN it was reported that thirty-three members of the US military have contracted the Zika virus overseas in countries where the virus has been identified, according to the Pentagon.”
“One of the military service members is a pregnant female. Under Pentagon health policies, female service members are permitted to move out of countries where Zika exists.”
