China’s complaint Over President-elect Trumps Call With Taiwan Leader
Business as usual with President-elect Trump wasn’t going to remain stagnant with missed opportunities for communications with other foreign dignitaries to take place with the new President. This isn’t a children’s playground where China’s leader Xi Jinping is complaining that President-elect Trump is talking to President Tsai Ing-wen of Taiwan.
China’s reaction tries to strong-arm President-elect Trump’s call with Taiwan’s leader President Tsai Ing-wen on Friday.
“China’s foreign ministry said Saturday it has lodged a complaint with the United States over a controversial phone call between President-elect Donald Trump and Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen.”
President-elect Trump said, “I fully understand the one China policy. Why do we have to be bound by one China policy? Unless we make a deal with China. Having to do with other things including trade. We’re being hurt very badly by China with devaluation. China taxing us very heavy at the borders which we don’t tax them. Building a massive fortress in the middle of the south China sea which they shouldn’t be doing. Frankly, not helping us at all with North Korea. (Thinking outside of the box! @Natalie Keshing)
“China views Taiwan as a renegade province and, since 1979, the US has acknowledged Beijing’s claim that Taiwan is part of China, with US-China relations governed by a set of protocols known as the “one China” policy.”
The phone call, described by Taiwan’s presidential spokesperson as “friendly talk,” is to be the first time a U.S. President or President-elect has had contact with a Taiwanese leader since before the United States cut off diplomatic relations with Taiwan in 1979. That speaks volumes for our past Presidents not to feel encouraged to engage with other world leaders and make this a peaceful alliance where both nations could prosper from newer trade deals and agreements. It pays to remain open and encouraged with other foreign relations.
