Sometimes the truth is sobering among the brightest days of all. ~ Natalie
Someday
I’ll out grow out of
This lovely dress.
Remembering,
I couldn’t breathe
On our special day.
I made that
Silly Hat
I called the Jetson hat
After a silly cartoon
On Saturday mornings.
But worn for you
On our special day.
You asked,
“What’s wrong?”
You grabbed my hand
As we dashed outside.
You undid
The clasps and
I finally breathed.
Looking into your
Green green eyes of Love.
We danced, we celebrated
With family & friends.
Before we knew it
Everything changed.
We loaded up the truck
And we moved to Beverly.
Hillside, that is.
Yes, swimming pools and
Movie stars.
Just as we witnessed
Throughout the City of Angels.
We were dressed to kill
On Sunset Blvd
In all it’s shiny glory.
Only the valet park cars
In the City of Angels.
The Bouncer and his special list.
Then a little magic
Finesse and gumption.
“You won’t find our name
on that list” I said truthfully.
He didn’t hesitate, he said
“Come right in Madam.”
I winked my eye at him.
In the City of Angels
A Computer Consultant
Her six figure salary
Was nothing
To laugh at.
And we partied like it was 1999.
And it was 1999.
I drove you to your interview.
And I’ll never forget
“Stop the car!”
Regurgitating your nervousness.
But I had no doubt,
I was your fortune teller.
“In three years,
You’ll be Vice-President.”
And so it came to be.
Like I’ve told you,
“With your smarts and my balls I’d rule the world.” Then out of the blue
Fibromyalgia In 2002
We held on tight
For A Hell Of A Ride.
The challenges,
Our fate
My darling.
I couldn’t have survived
Without you.
Remembering,
Opening wedding gifts
And I had no clue.
The fortune teller
In the City of Angels
Didn’t even have a clue; herself.
I, wanted to remain
A beacon of hope.
But I was on my way
To a head on collision course
With all my health challenges
That continually
Kept surfacing.
But…damn it!
I survived it
Three times.
The horrible pain
No doctor in LA
Could explain.
Carolis in 2006
Cancer in 2009
Sepsis in 2015.
Each leaving me with side effects.
But on that Spinning Bike
I prove for over an hour.
With The Fast and Fury.
And I ask?
Who’s in charge here?
I am,
AND I’m still alive.
Our son graduated college.
Before we knew it he grew up.
The best of all
We were by his side
On his special day among all.
Now our adorable granddaughter
The Best Of All.
