The decision is still pending, the decision to appoint the best qualified person to become President-elect Trump’s Secretary of State. Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani is being considered for the cabinet position.
President-elect Trump’s transition team should avoid repeating President Obama’s faux pas when he appointed Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State. It is extremely important not to repeat or ignore a potential conflict of interest based on selling influence for money for personal gain.
There was a memorandum of understanding between President Obama and Hillary Clinton. More than one thousand one hundred times Hillary’s pattern of behavior intentionally engaged in ‘pay for play’ corrupted schemes. Foreign donors donated millions and millions to the Clinton Foundation.
A veil of corruption and non-transparency is now directly associated with President Obama’s legacy through the State Department, Department of Justice and the FBI. Just yesterday, President Obama said, he is not responsible for President-elect Trump’s Presidential win. Meaning the loss of this election was a result of Hillary Clinton’s email scandal and the Clinton Foundation’s ongoing FBI investigation. This has nothing to do with the President’s performance and popularity.
President Obama endorsed and campaigned for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. To pardon Hillary Clinton, he could run the risk of completely damaging his Presidential legacy. Any support to protect former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has no value. Certainly, a miscue of his judgment of character.
It is surprising that former Mayor Rudy Giuliani in several instances had direct business ties to foreign governments and entities based on his private law firm and security business.
Giuliani said, “I have friends all over the world. This is not a new thing for me. When you become the mayor, you become interested in foreign policy. When I left, my major work was legal and security around the world.”
“Giuliani reported in a financial disclosure report that he had made 124 speeches, for as much as $200,000 each, and had earned a total of $11.4 million.”
In 2007, Giuliani’s law firm Bracewell & Giuliani was a lobbyist in Texas for Citgo, the American arm of a Venezuela’s state-owned oil company. Last year, President Obama declared Venezuela a national security threat.
Also in 2007, Giuliani’s consulting firm, Giuliani Security & Safety provided advice to Qatar’s state-owned oil company. Qatar is an ally of the United States.
Giuliani has also worked on behalf of Saudi Arabia, El Salvador and Mexico, as well as an Iranian exile group that was officially listed in the US as a terrorist group.
None of these business transactions are ‘play for play’ schemes. It is an exchange of money for a service or business provided. No rich foreign donors and company executives donating millions and millions of dollars into the Clinton Foundation masking as a charity foundation. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton often granted sovereign rights or information, peddling and selling her influence for money.
US Senator Rand Paul from Kentucky called Giuliani’s potential nomination “worrisome,” telling CNN that “whether or not you have divided loyalty, obviously, is very important.”
