The aftermath after yesterday’s shooting in Munich, Germany claimed nine people’s lives including the shooter. It appears he acted alone. He has been identified as David S. Police said he was an 18 year old German-Iranian man. The local media announced his name Ali David Sonboly. He was born and raised in Munich. The motive behind the attack still remains unclear. Officers were still collecting evidence at the scene where the shooter committed suicide. Again, we would like to express our condolences for the families of those who were the victims of this senseless killing.
It has been reported that a shooting in the Olympic shopping mall (the largest mall with 135 stores) has taken place in Munich, Germany around 6:00 pm. The shooting started at a McDonald’s in the mall. This is being considered a broad attack where there are multiple shootings throughout different areas. It’s not clear if the shooter(s) from the mall moved to a different area in the city.
The shooter at McDonald’s was wearing blue jeans and a black T-shirt and wearing a black hat. There is an L-shaped design in front of the T-shirt he is wearing. He is tall, at least 6 feet. This shooter is light complected. Through closer observation he does not appear to be from middle eastern decent. It appears this is NOT an ISIS attack just confirmed by the news. This is a domestic soft target shooting.
At least 10 – 15 people have been shot. There is now a massive police force on the scene. The shooter(s) are still on the loose. Civilians reported that they saw 3 shooters involved, which later turned out to be untrue. The Munich transportation authorities had shut down all public transportation. The city’s main train station was evacuated. The US Consulate had strongly advised for people to take shelter.
Germany has some of the strictest gun control laws where it is extremely difficult to have access to a gun. It should be noted that Germany has had very few soft target shootings compared to the numbers here in the United States.
