Bill Murray under investigation for âinappropriate behaviorâ after film set shutdown
From The New York Post by Andrew Court AND Nats.news narrated and commented by Natalie Keshingđ¤đ§
Bill Murray is in professional purgatory! đ§
Filming of the 71-year-old âSNLâ legendâs upcoming movie âBeing Mortalâ has been suspended after a complaint was reportedly filed specifically against the actor, alleging âinappropriate behavior.â – Hmm! đ¤Â
The bombshell was dropped last week and production was temporarily halted on Monday, according to Deadline. On Thursday, however, the film was ceased indefinitely amid an investigation into the âGhostbustersâ starâs on-set actions.Â
âAfter reviewing the circumstances, it has been decided that production cannot continue at this time,â Searchlight Pictures wrote in a letter issued to cast and crew. âWe are truly grateful to all of you for everything youâve put into this project.â
Principal photography began last month on âBeing Mortal,â which was written by controversial comedian Aziz Ansari, who is also directing and co-starring in the film alongside Seth Rogen. Ansari and Rogen reportedly are not a part of the investigation.
Maybe it was something in the dialogue that set off Bill! đ¤
The Post has reached out for comment from representatives for Murray, Ansari and Rogen. Of course.
Murray is one of Americaâs most beloved actors, but the âGroundhog Dayâ star has a long history of making enemies on the sets of his TV and film projects.
Well, there are a lot of touchy people in that business and ruffling their feathers can get you canned! If you know what I mean. đ~ Natalie
Back in 2000, Murray famously fell out with co-star Lucy Liu while filming âCharlieâs Angels,â with Liu claiming Murray made âinexcusable and unacceptableâ comments to her on set.
Was this during the #metoo movement? Double bad!
I would have said to Bill, âLook Bill, you and I have to work together and I donât appreciate your disrespect. So either you learn some respect or Iâm going to have to let the powers at be understand perfectly where Iâm coming from. You got it! And Iâm not playing, so wipe that silly grin off your face.â Got it!â đŁ~ Natalie
âCharlieâs Angelsâ co-star Drew Barrymore also addressed the incident last year, saying: âWhat really happened was Bill was just in a â you know, comedians can be a little dark sometimes â and he just came in in a bad mood.â
Hmm. A bad mood in a dark mood can probably be considered off the rails. đ¤
Meanwhile, âCharlieâs Angelsâ director McG additionally claimed that Murray headbutted him on the set of the action flick.
Now thatâs a Bill Murray move but âNOT NICEâ. Bill needed Super Nanny and to be told, âYou either shape up or youâll be replaced and youâll land up in the naughty corner forever. Got it Bill.â đ
âSquare in the head,â McG told the Guardian in May 2009. âAn inch later and my nose would have been obliterated.â Oooh! đŻÂ
Murray vehemently denied the claim. Of course he would!
âThatâs bullsât! Thatâs complete crap!â he responded in an interview with the Times of London in October 2009. âI donât know why he made that story up. He has a very active imagination.â
Elsewhere, Oscar winner Richard Dreyfuss described Murray as a âdrunken bullyâ who allegedly threw an ashtray at his face when they worked together on the 1991 film âWhat About Bob?â
Bill donât be throwing ashtrays at anybody! Especially, the old heavy glass oneâs we stared at our parents puff on all day! đł
âHe put his face next to me, nose-to-nose, and he screamed at the top of his lungs, âEveryone hates you! You are tolerated!ââ Dreyfuss recalled of the incident in a Yahoo! interview in June 2019.
That was one of my favorite movies. Hmm I must do a movie review!đ
No Bill, Iâm actually tolerating your obnoxious behavior in front of everyone. âLetâs get this straight, donât you ever yell at me again or you wonât be tolerated on this set.â
âThere was no time to react because he leaned back and he took a modern glass-blown ashtray,â he continued. âHe threw it at my face from [only a couple feet away]. And it weighed about three-quarters of a pound. And he missed me. He tried to hit me. I got up and left.â
Ah Hah! I was right. One of those heavy ones! Theyâre worse than a rock 𪨠! đ
Meanwhile, the filmâs writer and producer, Laura Ziskin, told the Los Angeles Times in 2003 that Murray made threatening comments to her.
Now thatâs really bad! Someone should have filed suit on this long lost comedian ages ago! đ
Ziskin once said a disagreement between them resulted in Murray tossing her into a lake, although she called it âplayful â.Â
He was dangerously unrelenting and dangerously unpredictable. đ§
âBill ⌠threatened to throw me across the parking lot and then broke my sunglasses and threw them across the parking lot,â she told the publication.
Back in 1978, Murray infamously got into a physical altercation with comedian Chevy Chase on the set of âSaturday Night Live.â
According to the book âLive From New York: An Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live,â it began with the two trading insults. Murray told Chase to go have sex with Jacqueline Carlin, Chaseâs then-wife, while Chase childishly retorted that Murrayâs face looked âlike something Neil Armstrong landed on.â đÂ
It quickly escalated to a physical dustup witnessed by cast members Jane Curtin, Laraine Newman and Gilda Radner.
Iâm sure Gilda tried to stop it, I can hear her already. âNow Bill – Chase calm down. This isnât what the show is about. Weâre comedians remember! Somebody call the police before this two seriously hurt each other.â And everyone stared at each other. âThinking, Iâm not going to do it!â đ¤đ§đ
Newman described the fight as âvery sad and painful and awfulâ during a June 2021 appearance on âWatch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.â You see it was that bad or rather Bill was that BAD!Â
Murray is also said to have had a physical altercation with longtime friend and director Harold Ramis on the set of 1993âs âGroundhog Day.â Ramis allegedly grabbed Murray by the shirt collar and threw him against a wall during a heated creative dispute.
Hmm đ¤ during a âheated creative disputeâ was that in the script?
Ramisâ daughter, Violet Ramis Stiel, revealed in her 2018 book, âGhostbusterâs Daughter: Life With My Dad, Harold Ramis,â that Murray wouldnât speak to his old pal for over 20 years. She said her dad âtried not to take it personally,â but he felt âheartbroken, confused and yet unsurprised by the rejection.â
You see these unplanned heated arguments make for a long time of never seeing each other and yet thinking about the good times with each other. So sad! đ
Just before Ramis died in February 2014, Murray managed to reconcile with the actor. Thatâs good!
Meanwhile, Murray reportedly left screen legend Anjelica Huston âhurtâ when he failed to invite her to a dinner party while filming âThe Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou.â
đ§Family, friends, and actors will do it to you every time! Â
âThe first week I was there [filming in Italy], we were all in this little hotel, and he invited the entire cast to go and have dinner, except me,â Huston told Vulture in May 2019.
Now thatâs BAD Bill. What the hell was wrong with you. This is Angelica Houston. I would have invited her to everyone of my birthday parties. Not that I had that many! But stillâŚBillâŚhonestlyâŚwhat is a normal soft hearted person going to do with you. đ§
âI was really hurt,â she continued. âAnd then I think we met again in Florence, because that movie was shot all over Italy, and we were doing a scene at Gore Vidalâs house in Ravello, and [Murray] said, âHey, howâve you been? I missed you.â I said, âYouâre full of sât. You didnât miss me.â He looked all confused for a moment.â
However, Murray and Huston later made up, with the âLost in Translationâ actor showing up at the funeral of Hustonâs husband, Robert Graham, in 2008.
Goes to show you, you canât take these actor comedians personally but criminally might be another matter. đ§
âHe couldnât have been nicer that day,â Huston stated. âHe showed up. A lot of people didnât.â
