Breaking News: Important Update on UN Security Counsel Addressing North Korea Testing an ICBM ~ UN Ambassador Nikki Haley Weighs In
Breaking News July 05, 2017 The UN Security Council is holding an emergency meeting after North Korea tested an Intercontinental Ballastic Missile threatening the US.
Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley was quoted, “Make no mistake North Korea’s ICBM is a clear and sharp military escalation. She continued to say, “Today is a dark day. It is a dark day because yesterday’s actions by North Korea made the world a more dangerous place. Their illegal missile launch was not only dangerous, but reckless and irresponsible the Ambassador added, calling it “a clear and sharp military escalation”.
“Their actions are quickly closing off the possibility of a diplomatic solution. America has “considerable military forces”. We will use them if we must. But we prefer not to have to go in that direction.“
“There are countries that are allowing, even encouraging, trade with North Korea in violation of U.N. Security Council resolution. Such countries would also like to continue their trade arrangements with the United States. That’s not going to happen.”
“The U.S. will also introduce a new resolution that raises the international response in a way that is proportionate to North Korea’s new escalation. Haley declined to give details.”
Haley was joined by the ambassadors from the U.K., France, Japan, South Korea and others in condemning the missile launch and calling for stricter enforcement of sanctions or new sanctions targets.
North Korea’s ICBM test launch comes within days of the G20 Summit July 7th and 8th and President Trump to meet with Putin for the first time. Obvious priorities are on North Korea! and Syria. All possibilities have to be examined. Is North Korea and Iran planning a sneak attack on Israel and the US with Putin playing a major key factor on Syria’s side. Iran wants Syria’s sovereign territory. Keeping Iran on the radar has to be monitored. Charles Krauthhammer’s astutue opinion on the Middle East.
Above all, China must thoroughly understand that failing to address the extremely dangerous and tenuous situation with North Korea continuing to test Intercontinental Ballastic Missiles with a nuclear threat, China too, will face the contamination of a nuclear attack, if the United States is forced to use a nuclear attack in retaliation on North Korea. A nuclear bomb’s ubiquitous contamination will travel far to those surrounding nations. This is not a win win situation if North Korea insists on threatening the world as a whole.
On April 26, 2017 the President of the United States invited all 100 Senators to meet at a White House briefing. To inform and understand the real threat of North Korea & the basis for the administration’s actions.North Korea continues to threaten the United States, China, South Korea and Japan with its saber-rattling. Consistently launching missiles into the sea for over a year. It behooves the United States to be prepared and be proactive versus reactive.
The President of the United States informed all 100 Senators the United States is pursing a strategy using China’s economic leverage to curb its neighbor’s provocative behavior in the last month. The United States has decided to activate the missile defense system in South Korea “within days” and tighten economic sanctions against North Korea.
After the meeting members of Congress like Admiral Harry Harris, Commander of the US Pacific Command said, “The Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense System would be “operational in the coming days to be able to better defend South Korea against the growing North Korea threat.”
Reported on FOX News the U.S. Commander Admiral Harry Harris in the Pacific also said on Wednesday, “He believes Hawaii needs more missile interceptors in response to the growing threat on North Korea and Pyongyang’s capability to launch a rocket.”
On a Reutures World News Report almost a year ago May 17, 2016 Admiral Harry Harris Head of U.S. Pacific Command told a South Korea support group in Washington that no threat in the region was “more dangerous than North Korea” and its leader Kim Jong-Un.
“He recently threatened pre-emptive nuclear strikes against the United States and other countries in the region,” Harris said. “Folks, make no mistake about it. North Korea is on a quest for nuclear weapons, the means to miniaturize them and the ways to deliver them intercontinentally.””
Harris said the threat from Pyongyang was one reason he has been working to boost trilateral cooperation among South Korea, Japan and the United States. Military cooperation among the three “is good, and I’d like to get it better,” he said.
Brietbart’s News by Kristina Wong reported on Senators reactions: White House briefing on North Korea ‘Sobering,’ ‘Important’.
“After the meeting, Tillerson, Mattis, and Coats released a statement, calling North Korea’s pursuit of nuclear weapons an “urgent national security threat and top foreign policy priority”:
“Today, along with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joe Dunford, we briefed members of Congress on the review. The president’s approach aims to pressure North Korea into dismantling its nuclear, ballistic missile, and proliferation programs by tightening economic sanctions and pursuing diplomatic measures with our allies and regional partners.”
“The statement said the administration is “engaging responsible members of the international community” – a veiled reference to China – to increase pressure on North Korea to de-escalate and return to the “path of dialogue.” “
“The statement also emphasized that the U.S. favors diplomacy over military action, but added that it remained “prepared to defend” itself and allies.”
“The United States seeks stability and the peaceful denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. We remain open to negotiations towards that goal. However, we remain prepared to defend ourselves and our allies.”
“Just weeks after President Trump took office, North Korea test-fired a medium-range ballistic missile, on February 11. The regime then launched four ballistic missiles on March 6. On April 5, it launched another missile.”
“The tests, in defiance of international law, show progress in North Korea’s illicit nuclear weapons program. Earlier this year, North Korea fired a missile using solid fuel, which makes it harder to detect before launch.”
“North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un has vowed to obtain a nuclear weapon that can hit the U.S. homeland, and Trump has warned that it will not happen during his watch.”
THAAD is designed to intercept a missile in its ‘terminal’ phase or the final stage as a missile is coming down to hit its target.
- Shoots down short- and medium-range ballistic missiles in the terminal phase of their flight
- Uses hit-to-kill technology – where kinetic energy destroys the incoming warhead
- Has a range of 200km (120 miles) and can reach an altitude of 150km
- US has previously deployed it in Guam and Hawaii as a measure against potential attacks from North Korea
- Deployment to South Korea was agreed by Obama administration
