Miranda was so unique and bubbly, she loved coming into the kitchen and looking like a hostess at a dinner party on a normal day. While she was writing she often said, “Girls, your mother is inspired till my bones decay.” Colorful; isn’t she? Well, it took a very special man to be married to Miranda. Of course the benefits in the “Passion Thing” were enormous. I’ll let your imagination run with that sexy scenario. Miranda had dreamed of becoming a writer since she wrote her first poem. Of course she thought long and hard before she chose her alias name she felt was the most appealing and metaphorically speaking gave her readers a hint of who she was; just a hint.
Elda asked, “Tell me Miranda why did you pick Eve Nightingale as your alias?”
Suddenly Natalie, the more quiet one, by just a quarter of an inch from Aubrey said, “I said to Mother that’s a fantastic name. First, Eve represents the name of the first woman to cast her temptations to catch a man.” Aubrey and Miranda looked at Natalie thoroughly and utterly surprised. “And not just any man mind you; as mother explained to us. Then the second name comes from a migratory bird in the “Thrush Family”, Luscinia Megarhynchos Of Europe. Most noted for the melodious song of the male. Primarily sung at night. During the breeding season. Adam Eve calling out to Adam.” Yes, there’s that “passion thing” once again.
From that moment, just as soon as Natalie was done with that very descriptive answer, Elda took the bull by it’s horns (now why should that surprise us?). She cleared her throat and started reading right out of the book.
That Certain Love
That Is Found And Fulfills
Something Deep Within You.
More Than An Itch To Scratch.
More Than A Conquest To Conquer.
More Than One Night
Of Empty Passion.
“We Set Sail
Without Meaning To.
Waves Of Desire
Came Over Me.
To Hold You,
To Be With You.
A Winds Shift
Took Over Me
And Now I Am Yours.”
“Were We Destined.
Was It Fate?
Was It The Gods?
Who Brought Us Together
And Now It’s Practically
Impossible To Relinquish
And Deny Our Love
For Each Other.”
Then Elda looked at Catherine, and that was Catherine’s queue. Catherine gladly picked it up from there with Elda’s blessing and there was this unplanned improvisation of Eve Nightingale’s romantic poems. Johnathan and Stuart had already escaped this very creative improvisation exercise to the Den; to talk about what men talk about. My God!!! Catherine took a deep breath, held her head up high and proceeded with the most allure only a woman can possess a man.
Just As I Asked.
Gliding Towards Me
In The Chariot With The Sun
Shining On His Face,
His Hair, His Lips
I Had Only Tasted Once
But I Knew.”
“Complimenting Each Other
Time, Happily Going By…”
“Those Shimmering Moments
Keep Us Wanting More
A Kiss, A Night,
The Moon, The Stars,
A Heart, A Poem, A Book,
A Mind Causing
A Dizzying Succession
Of Deep Feeling Wanting More.”
In The Presence Of Everything…
“Bravo! Well done.” said Miranda and everyone was clapping. The girls were quite amused with the adult women getting in touch with their inner passion; shall we say. When Karen brought Catherine’s copy of the book to be signed, Miranda noticed all the foot notes…
“Catherine is this your poetry?” asked Miranda
“Yes it is, I was so inspired as you just witnessed my mother and I thought to myself well why don’t I have a go at it and see what I can create.”
“Well I have to say that this is such a wonderful surprise. Do you mind if I share a few poems with us in this cozy atmosphere?” ask Miranda.
“Absolutely not, I would be quite honored.” responded Catherine. Elda said, “Of course I wrote a poem or two back in my hay day and my grandparents and Billie Jose Moses a dear friend of mine absolutely thought I was genius. An exceptional natural capacity of intellect…Well we all have this in us. Everyone of us. I guarantee you.”
Miranda cleared her throat…and there she goes
On a first
Fickle Beyond Reproach
The next Mornings Rose…
Of your soft kiss
Were true and everlasting
Oh my that does stir the ‘passion thing’. One more round of applause and then Johnathan and Stuart walked in to all the happy commotion and entertainment.
“My dear Miranda, we should be getting home and let the girls have a night to themselves without the grown ups watching their every move.” said Stuart. Blinking his eye to the girls.
“Very well, I hate for this evening to end my dear Elda and Catherine but we certainly have had a grand time and without even planning; such a marvelous evening. Surprises like this are absolutely rare.” said Miranda.
“Scarlet, come to mama. You can come another day to play with Trixie and what is the name of the grey cat?” Karen responded, “Spuddles” “Yes, Spuddles what a catchy name for a cat.”
Scarlet listened for her cue and she immediately came to Miranda’s lap. She was panting from all the playing with Trixie. Her little tail wagged back and forth in Miranda’s arms. Trixie was purring while she brushed herself against Miranda’s legs. They all walked outside to waved goodbye to Miranda and Stuart. The girls went upstairs, each with a slice of the chocolate torte and milk. Catherine and Elda picked up a bit here and there while Johnathan checked the water in the Christmas Tree.
Elda said, “That was a splendid evening Catherine.” She walked towards Catherine and hugged Catherine and gave her a kiss on her cheek.
“Catherine, I want you to know how proud I am of you dear. If it weren’t for you, Karen and Johnathan I’m not sure I would have survived as long as I have without your father. And I think you should start thinking about writing a book. I was very impressed with your poetry my dear. You mean the absolute world to me. I knew when I had you that I was in for an amazing treat to see you grow and become the woman you are. I don’t want to undermine your authority with Karen. I just want for her to take advantage of all her opportunities.”
“I understand Mother. After spending this evening with you and Miranda and the girls, I realized that my daughter marrying at 18 would be a great injustice to her, not to mention that neither of three Winter boys are well prepared to handle Karen.”
Elda laughed and Catherine smiled winking her eye to her mother. There certainly was a bit of Elda in Catherine, just wait and see.
“Johnathan and I did bring up Karen to be independent and she should remain that way until she finds the true love in her life; after college and where her career will take her. That’s the sensible thing to do. I am just as lucky that I have you, Johnathan and Karen. I love you mother.”
“And I love you, my beautiful Catherine.”
Aubrey and Natalie loved their parents a great deal and there wasn’t a dull moment in the family. Miranda made sure of that. When the girls were younger and on holiday in their luxurious suite. Aubrey and Natalie were playing an intense game of chess. The ocean was beautiful and humming in the background. Miranda came in and said to the girls,
“Your father and I need a nap.” That was the cue not to bother or interrupt their nap.
Aubrey blurted out, “It’s not a nap, it’s doing the ‘passion thing'”.
Miranda ignored the comment and left humming to herself.
“You see Natalie, that’s the proof when she’s humming.” said Aubrey.
“You’re right Aubrey, mother usually does comes into the kitchen humming while we’re having our breakfast.” Aubrey would ask to earn her kudos with Miranda,
“Did you sleep well mother?”
“Completely and utterly fantastic.” replied Miranda.
